Gymnast player Dipa Karmakar, who won a medal for the country, has failed in the dope test, due to which ITA has banned her for 21 months. The International Testing Agency said in its statement, ‘We confirm that Deepa was banned for 21 months which will end on 10 July 2023. She was found guilty of consuming Hizenamine, which is on the banned list of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

It may be noted that the ITA is an independent agency responsible for the anti-doping program of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). In such a situation, the banning of Deepa Karmakar for 21 months by him is worrying. That too when Deepa Karmakar has been battling injuries since the surgery in 2017. His last tournament was the 2019 World Cup in Baku. Let me tell you, Deepa represented India in the Olympics.

Deepa also secured the fourth position in the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio. Earlier, Karmakar had won the bronze medal in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
