In Thane, Maharashtra, thugs defrauded a government contractor of about Rs 11 crore in the name of business. Some people defrauded a government contractor of over Rs 10.8 crore by preparing fake documents for a business deal, an official said on Monday. In this case, a case has been registered against four people on the complaint of the victim.

An FIR has been registered against directors of two companies and a couple under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and other provisions, an official at the local police station said. ,

The complainant has alleged that the accused couple wanted to sell the electrical goods manufacturing company in Andheri MIDC and Palghar and they showed them all the documents. He also visited manufacturing units.

The complainant paid Rs 5.82 crore to purchase both the plants and he checked the documents after a few days and found that they were fake, the officer said. The accused did not show the original documents and refused to transfer the shares after receiving the money, the officer said, adding that the accused couple also allegedly closed their office in Thane.

He said the complainant was defrauded of Rs 10.8 crore, which included the amount paid to purchase the factory and the earnings he earned from his investment in the unit.
