Who will UCC apply to in Uttarakhand? Natives or all residents?

Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). After which many questions are arising in the minds of the people about UCC. One question that is arising in the minds of the people of the state is whether UCC will be applicable to the original residents of Uttarakhand or will the people living in the state also come under the purview of UCC. Experts have given clarification on the questions arising in the minds of the common people.
To whom will UCC be applicable in Uttarakhand
Member of the expert committee that drafted UCC and VC of Doon University, Prof. Surekha Dangwal has clarified that the registration under UCC has nothing to do with the Domicile or Permanent Residence Certificate of Uttarakhand. All the people living in Uttarakhand for at least one year have been brought under its purview so that the demography of Uttarakhand can be protected.
Experts issued a statement on the provisions of UCC
Issuing a statement on the UCC provisions, Prof. Surekha Dangwal said that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is related to services like marriage, divorce, live-in, will. It is not possible to link it to permanent residence or domicile in any way. Apart from this, there are no additional benefits from UCC registration. Permanent residence in Uttarakhand will be decided as per the previous conditions.
People with criminal tendencies will be curbed
Surekha Dangwal said that registration under UCC is like a person can make his voter card if he has normal residence anywhere. Through this, personal laws have been regulated. So that the society and culture of Uttarakhand can be protected, this will ensure the protection of Uttarakhand’s demography. Along with this, people with criminal tendencies will also be curbed.
You will be able to avail the benefits of schemes only after getting registered
Dangwal said that a large number of people from other states also live in Uttarakhand, these people are taking advantage of government schemes in Uttarakhand. Such people will now be able to avail the benefits of government schemes only after getting registered. If it was applicable only to permanent residents, then many people coming from other states would have been left out of its scope, while they would keep taking advantage of all the government schemes here.
The government’s data base will be strengthened
Dangwal said that on the other hand, Uttarakhand does not have the details of marriages, divorces, live-in relationships of such people from Uttarakhand. Its purpose is to provide registration facility under UCC to all the people living in Uttarakhand as well as to make the government’s data base more rich. According to Prof. Surekha Dangwal, this will only strengthen the institution of marriage, which has been the basis of prosperity of our society.
