Uttarakhand: Dhami government’s big decision- marriage registration in UCC will be free till July 26, government has issued order for fee waiver

The Uniform Civil Code has come into force in the state of Uttarakhand from 27 January 2025. Under this, it has been made mandatory to register all marriages that took place between 26 March 2010 and 26 January 2025 under the UCC. At present, a fee of Rs 250 is being charged for the registration of marriages. In such a situation, now the Uttarakhand government has decided that more and more people should register their marriages. For this, the registration of marriages that took place before 27 January 2025 will be free till 26 July 2025. That is, if someone gets the marriage registered before 26 July 2025, then he will not have to pay the registration fee.

Apart from this, those citizens who have already got their marriage registered under the Uttarakhand Compulsory Registration of Marriages Bill, 2010 or any other personal law. It is also mandatory for them to give information or receipt of this registration on the portal of Uniform Civil Code. This process is only for providing information and no fee will be payable for this.

So far, more than 1 lakh 90 thousand marriages have been registered online under the Uniform Civil Code. The entire process of marriage registration is completely digital. Due to which citizens are getting the facility of registration through online medium without any office complexity. The state government has appealed to the citizens to take advantage of the time limit and make maximum use of the fee-free registration facility and get their marriages registered under UCC.
