Uttarakhand: Medical colleges and hospitals to undergo fire safety audit, Health Secretary issues strict instructions

Following the fire at a hospital in Jaipur, the state government has decided to conduct a fire safety audit of all medical colleges and hospitals. In a review meeting at the Secretariat, Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar directed the strengthening of fire safety systems in government and private medical colleges and hospitals.

Fire safety audits will be conducted through mock drills every month. Negligence in hospitals will not be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against those violating regulations. Director of Medical Education Dr. Ajay Arya, Principal of Doon Medical College Dr. Geeta Jain, Deputy Secretary Jaswinder Kaur, and CMS Doon Medical College Dr. R.S. Bisht were present at the meeting.

Strict Instructions for Fire Safety at Doon Medical College

The Health Secretary directed the executing agency responsible for fire safety at Doon Medical College to provide a fire-related NOC promptly. The Secretary also urged the Fire Department to take necessary action. The Secretary directed that sprinklers, motors, and other fire safety equipment be inspected and a demonstration be conducted. The Principal of Government Doon Medical College was directed to hold regular monthly meetings with the executing agency. The executing agency informed the meeting that the fire NOC for the OT building would be issued by October 30, 2025, and the NOC from the CSSD Department by November 30, 2025.

Patients and staff safety a government priority: Dhami

Chief Minister Dhami stated that fire safety systems will be strengthened in all government and private medical colleges and hospitals in the state. Further strengthening security in hospitals is essential. The safety of patients and hospital staff is our priority. The state government will ensure that all hospitals in Uttarakhand operate in accordance with safety standards. Negligence of any kind will not be tolerated.
