Focus on Devotees’ Health for the 2026 Chardham Yatra; Health Alert Campaign Launched Across Various States

To ensure a safe and well-organized Chardham Yatra in 2026, the Government of Uttarakhand has formulated a comprehensive strategy regarding healthcare arrangements. Under the directives of Sachin Kurve, Secretary of Medical Health and Medical Education, the Health Department has issued a special health advisory for pilgrims arriving from various states across the country. The objective of this initiative is to proactively mitigate potential health issues that may arise during the pilgrimage and to enhance public awareness.

Health Alert Campaign Launched Across Various States
The Health Department has initiated a robust drive for inter-state coordination. In furtherance of this effort, on April 9, 2026, Dr. Amit Shukla, the Department’s Assistant Director, visited Rajasthan and held a detailed meeting with the state’s administrative and health officials. Held at the level of the Principal Secretary to the Government of Rajasthan, the meeting was also attended by the Director (Public Health) and Dr. Ravi Prakash Sharma. During the session, the health advisories and guidelines issued by the Government of Uttarakhand were shared, leading to an in-depth discussion regarding potential health risks associated with the pilgrimage and the necessary precautionary measures.

Widespread Dissemination of Information
A key decision taken during the meeting was to disseminate these guidelines on a massive scale, prioritizing the health and well-being of pilgrims participating in the Chardham Yatra above all else. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that pilgrims traveling from Rajasthan are provided with essential health-related information, precautions, and guidelines well in advance of their journey, enabling them to embark on the pilgrimage with full preparation and awareness. The officials also deliberated on effective strategies to reach these health advisories to the general public, thereby ensuring that the maximum number of pilgrims benefit from the information and that health-related risks during the pilgrimage are minimized.

Health Advisory to Reach Rural Areas
It was decided during the meeting that, in Rajasthan, the dissemination of these health advisories would not be confined solely to urban centers but would be extended down to the village level. To achieve this, assistance will be sought from local administrative bodies, the Health Department, and elected public representatives. The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure that pilgrims preparing to undertake the Chardham Yatra are fully informed about the necessary health precautions well in advance of their journey. This initiative will help minimize the occurrence of sudden illnesses and medical emergencies during the journey.

Special Emphasis Placed on Health Advisories
In the health advisory issued by the Uttarakhand government, specific advice has been directed toward the elderly, patients with heart conditions, and individuals suffering from respiratory ailments, urging them to undergo a medical check-up prior to their journey. Furthermore, taking into account factors such as reduced oxygen levels at high altitudes, sudden weather fluctuations, and the strenuous nature of long-distance trekking, significant emphasis has also been placed on carrying essential medications, maintaining physical fitness, and ensuring adequate preparation.

The Uttarakhand government is fully committed to ensuring that the Char Dham Yatra 2026 is both safe and successful. Our objective is to ensure that every pilgrim undertaking this journey has access to superior healthcare facilities and receives accurate, timely information. To this end, we have established coordination with other states to facilitate the widespread dissemination of health-related advisories. We have placed a particular focus on those states from which a large volume of pilgrims originate. We appeal to all pilgrims to strictly undergo a medical check-up before commencing their journey and to strictly adhere to the issued guidelines, thereby ensuring that their pilgrimage remains a safe and pleasant experience.
