Congress raises serious questions regarding Kumbh works; BJP hits back at the allegations

The Congress party has raised questions regarding the ongoing construction work in Haridwar in preparation for the 2027 Kumbh Mela. Karan Mahra, the former state president of the Congress and head of the party’s ‘chargesheet committee,’ inspected the ongoing projects in the Kumbh area alongside party workers and alleged irregularities and the misuse of funds in the construction activities.

Mahra demanded that the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), tender details, and payment records for projects worth approximately ₹709 crore be made public. He also questioned the costs associated with the renovation of Satikund and the beautification and footpath construction on Bilkeshwar Road. Furthermore, he called for an inquiry into the quality of the construction work and the current status of the projects.

He stated that works related to roads, sewerage, electricity, and drinking water supply require better coordination and should undergo technical and financial audits by a third party. Mahra added that the Congress would conduct a physical inspection of these projects and raise the issue in Dehradun, backed by evidence.

BJP dismisses Congress allegations as a political ploy

BJP District President Ashutosh Sharma hit back at the Congress’s allegations. He remarked that the Congress had not offered a single suggestion regarding Kumbh preparations so far, yet—in its bid to gain power—it now finds fault with every initiative.

Sharma stated that the entire Kumbh Mela administration team is dedicated to preparing for the grand event, whereas the Congress has reduced itself to merely finding flaws. He also questioned the visit of the Congress chargesheet committee to Haridwar, noting that while committee members did visit, it remained unclear what work they actually accomplished.
