Cases of Swine Flu (H1N1) infection are steadily rising in Uttarakhand. To curb the spread of the infection, the Health Department has issued an advisory for schools. It advises students to exercise caution, wear masks, and practice social distancing. Instructions have also been issued not to send children exhibiting flu-like symptoms to school.
Emphasis on Masks and Social Distancing in Schools
Dehradun’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Manoj Sharma, has sent a letter regarding the advisory to relevant officials, including the District Education Officer. He stated that, given the rising H1N1 cases, schools have been advised to ensure social distancing and the use of masks as needed. Parents have been asked not to send students to school if they show flu-like symptoms.
565 Cases Reported; 372 in Dehradun
According to the Health Department, eight new H1N1 cases were detected in Dehradun district in the last 24 hours. A total of 565 Swine Flu cases have been reported in the state so far. Of these, 372 cases are from Dehradun district, while 193 patients arrived from other districts or states. Currently, there are 78 active cases in Dehradun and Rishikesh.
The Health Department has also appealed to the general public to self-isolate if they exhibit flu-like symptoms, avoid crowded places, wear masks, and maintain hand hygiene. Dedicated isolation beds for Swine Flu patients have been designated in government and private hospitals, and flu-specific Outpatient Departments (OPDs) are also operational.
Two Deaths Confirmed So Far
Most of the currently active patients are undergoing treatment in private hospitals. A significant number of these patients have pre-existing medical conditions. According to the Health Department, a review of fatalities has confirmed two deaths attributed to Swine Flu so far.
The department has urged people to exercise caution rather than panic. Officials state that the spread of the infection can be controlled through awareness and vigilance.
