The date for the election to one Rajya Sabha seat from Uttarakhand has been finalized. According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, polling will take place on October 16. This seat will fall vacant upon the completion of the tenure of the incumbent Rajya Sabha MP, Naresh Bansal. Bansal has been representing Uttarakhand since November 2020.
The notification for the election will be issued on September 29. The last date for filing nominations is October 6. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on October 7, while the deadline for the withdrawal of candidatures is October 9. Polling will be held on October 16 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and the counting of votes will commence at 5:00 PM on the same day.
Tenure Ends on November 25
Naresh Bansal is the current MP holding this Rajya Sabha seat from Uttarakhand. His term is set to conclude on November 25, 2026. Bansal was elected unopposed in the election held in November 2020. Official Rajya Sabha records also list him as a member representing Uttarakhand since November 2020.
Now, with the conclusion of his term, the process to elect a new member for this seat will begin. Rajya Sabha members are elected by the elected members of the respective state legislative assembly.
Three Rajya Sabha Seats in Uttarakhand
There are a total of three Rajya Sabha seats allocated to Uttarakhand. Currently, apart from Naresh Bansal, Mahendra Bhatt and Kalpana Saini are Rajya Sabha members. Mahendra Bhatt’s term extends until 2030, while Kalpana Saini’s term runs until 2028.
