On Thursday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated a newly constructed gaushala (cowshed) in Haldighera, built at a cost of Rs 7.23 crore. During the event, he also laid the foundation stones for 15 development projects worth Rs 108.84 crore. A key project among these is the upgradation of a 13.60-kilometer stretch of State Highway-70—from Satrahmeel to the Nanaksagar section—at a cost of Rs 34.44 crore.

The Chief Minister announced that the Haldighera gaushala would be expanded in the future based on requirements. He stated that this expansion would allow for providing safe and dignified shelter to a larger number of destitute cattle. This will ensure better care for the animals, provide relief to farmers and local residents, and reduce the risk of accidents on roads caused by stray cattle.

Shelter for over 16,000 destitute cattle

The Chief Minister noted that more than 16,000 destitute cattle are currently being provided with safe shelter through gau sadans (cattle shelters) across the state. The ‘Gramya Gau Sevak Yojana’ (Rural Cattle Caretaker Scheme) has been launched as a pilot project. Furthermore, in collaboration with the Urban Development and Panchayati Raj departments, land has been identified at 63 locations across the state for the construction of gaushalas.

He added that alongside cattle conservation, efforts are being made to integrate the livestock sector into the rural economy. Special development centers have been established to promote the production of pure ghee and dairy products derived from the ‘Badri’ breed of cows.

Focus on roads, bridges, and flood protection

The Chief Minister emphasized that continuous efforts are underway to strengthen infrastructure—including roads, bridges, educational facilities, and flood protection measures—across the entire Udham Singh Nagar district, including Khatima. Ensuring the timely and high-quality completion of these development projects remains a priority for the government.

The Chief Minister remarked that cattle hold a special place in Indian culture, and their conservation is both a matter of tradition and a profound responsibility. He stated that the government is committed to the preservation of cultural heritage and traditions, alongside development and public welfare.
