Amidst preparations for the assembly elections in Uttarakhand, speculation has intensified regarding former Chief Minister Harish Rawat potentially contesting from Haridwar. A social media post by Harish Rawat triggered these discussions within political circles. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also weighed in, offering praise for Harish Rawat. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s private secretary, Dinesh Agarwal, took a dig at the speculation surrounding Harish Rawat’s possible candidacy from Haridwar.

Speaking to journalists at Damkothi in Haridwar, Dinesh Agarwal remarked that no one knows better than Harish Rawat himself the circumstances he faced in Haridwar during the 2009, 2014, and 2017 elections. He added that Harish Rawat has never been prevented from engaging in politics, and the people of Haridwar have already made their stance clear through their past electoral decisions.

In fact, a day earlier, Harish Rawat had expressed his desire to contest from Haridwar via a social media post, which prompted the response from Dinesh Agarwal. Agarwal stated that neither Harish Rawat nor any other leader has ever been stopped from pursuing politics; however, he took a jab at the prospect of Rawat contesting from Haridwar by pointing to the outcomes of previous elections.

Dinesh Agarwal also predicted a third consecutive victory for the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections. He asserted that the BJP’s organizational structure is robust at the grassroots level, and the party continues to enjoy public trust, driven by its leadership, policies, and programs. He further noted that various recent surveys and public opinion polls also favor the BJP.

Regarding the possibility of Harish Rawat contesting from Haridwar, Agarwal remarked that the situation would become clearer as the election draws closer.
