Women’s Boxing Championships: Nikhat Zareen reaches pre-quarterfinals, defeats top seed Roumaysa

World champion Nikhat Zareen has taken another step towards defending her title. The boxer defeated Algeria’s Roumaysa Boulam 5-0 at the KD Jadhav Stadium to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the World Women’s Boxing. Despite being the defending champion, Nikhat has not been seeded in the championship, but on Sunday he defeated the top seeded boxer in the 50 weight category. On the other hand, Haryana’s Manisha Maun made it to the last-16 by easily defeating Australia’s Tina Rahimi 5-0 in the 57 weight category.

Roumaysa’s aggressive game dashed
It was a big competition for Nikhat. Roumaysa became the first female boxer from Algeria to compete in the Tokyo Olympics as well as being the African champion. She is also running in tremendous form. Nikhat tested him in the first round. Roumaysa was trying to attack continuously, but Nikhat not only saved herself by retreating but also hit the counter punch and won the round 5-0.

In the second and third rounds, Roumaysa became more aggressive, but Nikhat stuck to her strategy of retreating. He won the second and third rounds 4–1, 3–2. Nikhat said that she wanted to win this bout at any cost. She is not seeded and was going to play the highest seed. By defeating the top seed, she wanted to leave a different impression in the eyes of the judges and the public and she did it. She says that she will get the advantage of defeating the top seed. Nikhat will now play Alvarez Fatima Herrera of Mexico.
