The Punjab Haryana High Court has expressed displeasure over the blocking of the path of farmers going from Punjab to Delhi in Haryana. Punjab Haryana High Court pulled up the Haryana government in the hearing. A petition was filed in the court on behalf of Advocate Uday Pratap Singh demanding a ban on the measures to stop the farmers. The High Court asked, after asking whom you have closed the highways, who gave you the right to harass the public? Haryana government clarified that the farmers have not taken permission for the protest. The High Court said that farmers have their own rights. They are not protesting in your state, just passing through. It is everyone’s right to walk on the road. The court has fixed February 15 for hearing in this case. Along with this, the High Court has sought status report from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

The movement is not peaceful
The bench of Acting Chief Justice GS Sandhawalia and Justice Lupita Banerjee of Punjab Haryana High Court expressed displeasure while hearing the civil writ petition. During the hearing, the double bench asked the Haryana government the reason for blocking the road. Also expressed displeasure at not getting a satisfactory answer. On the questions of the court, Haryana’s side said that the farmers’ movement is not peaceful. The Punjab government has said in the court that this is wrong, the farmers’ movement is completely peaceful. The farmers are going to Delhi only to talk without weapons, so we did not block their path. Farmers have announced Delhi Chalo March with the demand of MSP. During the hearing in the court, SP Jain, who appeared on behalf of the central government, gave details of the steps taken by the government to the court. The court finally said that use of force should be the last option. The court also asked to find a solution to this matter by sitting with all the parties.

What was the demand in the petition?
Advocate Uday Pratap Singh said in the petition that due to the farmers’ movement, the common people are facing a lot of problems. Internet services have been stopped in many districts of Haryana. In such a situation, the students whose examinations are about to start are in trouble. Singh said in the petition that the measures taken to stop the protest are not only violating the rights of the farmers, but are also causing problems to the common people.

Condemnation of action on Shambhu border
On one hand, the court has pulled up the Haryana government for blocking the path of farmers from Punjab, while on the other hand, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has condemned the attack by farmers on the Shambhu border. SKM has called for protests across India on 16 February 2024. SKM has sent a letter to the Prime Minister demanding talks.
