Trump, who called PM Modi a friend a day ago, has now raised questions on India’s policies
Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump has once again criticized India. Just a day ago, Trump had called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi his friend, while now he has alleged that India is at the top among the countries imposing the highest taxes on foreign goods.
Trump has said that if he comes to power, he will bring a tit for tat tax system. Trump has said that the most important part of his plan is to make America exceptionally rich again. These words are very important for my plan because we do not normally impose tariffs.
‘Modi is a friend but charges too much tax’
During a rally on Thursday, Trump criticized India’s imposition of high tariffs and said that if he wins the presidential election, he will bring a reciprocal tax system. He said that I had started the process for vans and trucks etc. and it was very good. We actually do not charge any tax at all. China charges 200 percent tariff from us, Brazil also charges us a lot. And the country that charges the highest tariff is India.
In his speech on economic policy in Detroit, Trump said that India charges the highest duty on us. He said that we have good relations with India, especially with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is a great leader and a great person. He has done a very good job but he charges too much on our products.
Trump raised questions on India’s policies
Trump said that India charges more excise duty on our products than even China. Referring to an incident, he said that when he was in the White House, in the second or third year of his tenure, an official of Harley Davidson came to meet him. Trump said that the official called India the most difficult country for business and said that India charges 150 percent.
Trump said that India wants companies to go there and set up their plants and produce there. On doing so, it does not charge much duty on the products. Giving the example of Harley Davidson, he said that they went to India and set up a plant there. Now they are doing business in India easily. Trump said that I did not like this.
