Uttarakhand : 11th meeting of State Ganga Committee held
The 11th meeting of the State Ganga Committee was held at the Secretariat on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Shri Om Prakash. In the meeting, the Chief Secretary inquired about the progress of works of various projects related to Ganga protection and rejuvenation from various departments, agencies and district officials associated with the State Ganga Committee and gave necessary directions in this regard. The Chief Secretary directed the concerned departments to organize meetings of the District Ganga Committee regularly while reviewing the progress of various works. The Chief Secretary directed the Urban Development Department and Drinking Water Corporation to expeditiously complete the works of household connectivity under septage management in Devprayag, Gangotri and Badrinath. The Chief Secretary directed the concerned District Magistrates to remove any kind of encroachment in the flood plain zoning. He said that immediate works should be started in these areas by removing the encroachments. The Chief Secretary directed all the district magistrates to keep reviewing it at regular intervals to speed up the progress of various projects under Namami Gange Abhiyan and if any problem related to it at the district level, it should be brought to the notice of the state level committee in time. Instructions were also given to bring The Chief Secretary sent proposals to various departments under the ‘Arth Ganga’ project, integrating the economic development of the people living in the areas adjoining the Ganga basin, along with the rejuvenation of the Ganga. He has been directed to send the proposal at the earliest. The Chief Secretary also instructed to expedite the work of wetland conservation and complete it at the earliest. Additional Chief Secretary Shri Anand Vardhan, Secretary Shri S.A. Murugesan, Additional Secretary Shri V. Shanmugam, Project Director Namami Gange Shri Udayaraj, high officials of the concerned departments and District Magistrates and departmental officers from the respective districts were present through video conferencing.
