Ellis, Hsieh win Wimbledon women’s doubles title
No. 3 seeded pair of Belgium’s Elise Mertens and Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Su-Wei defeated Russian pair of Veronika Kudermatova and Elena Vesnina 3-6, 7-5, 9-7 to win the women’s doubles title at Wimbledon.
The number-3 seed, despite trailing 3-6, 3-5, made a spectacular comeback to reach the title. Hsieh thus got his third title at the All-England club while Mertens won his third Grand Slam title overall.
The Belgian had earlier won the Australian Open in February with Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, while Hsieh won Wimbledon with China’s Peng Shuai in 2013 and Czech Republic’s Barbora Strycova in 2019.
The win would ensure Ellis’ return to the doubles world No. 1 ranking.
