Pandora paper will be investigated : Government
The government today said that the Pandora paper case will be probed by multi-level agencies headed by the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which includes representatives of the Enforcement Directorate, Reserve Bank and FIU along with the CBDT.
In a statement issued here today, the Ministry of Finance said that the International Consortium of International Journalists yesterday released a list of people from 200 countries who have assets abroad through 2.94 terabytes of data. This investigation has been done on the basis of confidential records of 14 companies providing service abroad. These companies give their services to the rich and companies.
The ministry said that the government has taken cognizance of this. The concerned investigating agencies will investigate the matter and appropriate action as per law will be taken. For effective investigation of this matter, the government will collect information from abroad and also take information from the concerned taxpayer or company.
He said that till now the names of some Indians and companies have come in the media in the Pandora paper. Names have not been released and no specific information has been given on the website of the organization that issued this paper. The organization says that information will be released in this matter in a phased manner.
