In the month of October, the government allowed the export of domestically manufactured Russian single-dose Kovid-19 vaccine Sputnik Lite. According to the report of news agency PTI, Indian pharmaceutical company Hetero Biopharma Limited was given permission to export 4 million doses of Sputnik Lite to Russia. Russian Ambassador Nikolay Kudshev had urged the Indian government to allow the export of Sputnik lights.
At present, this vaccine has not yet been approved for emergency use in India. Hetero Biopharma manufactures Sputnik Light in the country. The Russian vaccine Sputnik Lite is similar to Component-1 of Sputnik V. India’s drug regulator approved the emergency use of Sputnik V in April. Since then it is being used in the anti-Covid-19 vaccination campaign in India.
It is worth mentioning that in the month of September, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) had given permission for the third phase trial of Russia’s Sputnik Light Vaccine in the country. Sputnik Lite is a single dose vaccine, after which no further doses are needed. At present, two doses of the vaccine being used in the country have to be administered.
