Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released the eighth installment of Minimum Economic Benefit under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme from New Delhi through virtual medium. Around Rs 20,000 crore was disbursed to more than 9.5 crore farmer families under this installment.

After releasing the installment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with the farmer beneficiaries. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar was also present on the occasion.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur also joined the virtual program from Shimla today. He thanked the Prime Minister for releasing the eighth installment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

Subsequently, the Chief Minister, while reviewing the progress under the scheme in the state, said that the scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24 February 2019, under which the small and marginal farmers received Rs 6000 per year as income support. The amount is being given in three equal installments of 2000 rupees.

Jai Ram Thakur said that the agriculture sector in the state contributes about 13.62 percent of the total state gross domestic product. He said that there are about 9.97 lakh farming families in the state, out of which about 89 percent are small and marginal farmers. He said that under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, assistance of Rs 1355.80 crore has been provided to 9,26,963 eligible farmers so far.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has made a budget provision of Rs 642.47 crore for the year 2021-22 under various schemes for the agricultural sector. He said that the state government has started several schemes like Chief Minister Nutan Polyhouse Project, Krishi Sampoorna Yojana, Krishi Kosh, Natural Farming Khushal Kisan Yojana, Zika Phase-2, Water-to-Agriculture Force Scheme to benefit the farming community.

Chief Secretary Anil Khachi, Director Land Records Hans Raj Chauhan, Director Agriculture Naresh Thakur and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
