Bihar / Vaishali : 7 injured in acid attack in Bihar’s Vaishali
Seven people of the same family were scorched in an acid attack in Bihar’s Vaishali district in the early hours of Sunday. In Arara Panchayat under Hajipur Sadar sub-division, the acid attack was allegedly carried out after a candidate of the Mukhiya lost the panchayat election.
Police said that Ajay Bhagat and Ajit Bhagat had contested for the post of headman in the panchayat elections, the result of which came on Saturday. Ajay and Ajit are uncle and nephew in kinship.
Due to the rivalry between the two, the third candidate won the election as it led to division of votes, said DP Choudhary, officer of Sadar Thana Hajipur. Ajit was angry with his uncle Ajay for contesting the election. In a fit of rage, he mixed the acid with sugar syrup and threw it on Ajay Bhagat’s family.
The injured have been admitted to Hajipur Sadar Hospital due to 30 to 50 percent burns.
According to the statement of the victims, a member of Ajay Bhagat’s family was making a video of Ajit Bhagat’s house. Ajay and Ajit’s houses are adjacent to each other. This incident also started the acid attack.
“We are probing the incident from all angles,” he said. The statements of the victims have been recorded. Ajit Bhagat is currently absconding. He will be put behind bars soon.
