“Saved my life in 26/11, remained in the army for 15 years but I am unemployed, which job will I give?,” Ex-Serviceman’s question to Mahindra

Lakhs of youths of the country are protesting against the Agnipath Scheme launched by the Government of India. Demonstrations also took a violent form in many states. Some people believe that this scheme will prove to be very beneficial, while some students fear that it will spoil their career.

Since the launch of the scheme, students from across the country have taken to the streets and have opened a front against the government. Students allege that this scheme will put their future in danger. It is worth noting that the government is also talking about giving priority to Agniveers in the job. Anand Mahindra, the head of Mahindra & Mahindra Group, also offered Agniveers a job in his company.

What did Anand Mahindra say?

Anand Mahindra was asked by a person named Sandeep Kumar on Twitter, ‘Which post will you give job to Agniveer in Mahindra Group?’ In response to this, Anand Mahindra wrote, ‘There are many job opportunities for Agniveers in the corporate sector. The industry will benefit from Agniveers armed with leadership, teamwork and physical training. They will play a key role in areas ranging from operations to administration and supply chain management.

Ex-Serviceman questions Anand Mahindra

Former soldier Praveen Kumar Teotia asked sharp questions to Anand Mahindra. Praveen Kumar wrote through a tweet, ‘I am unemployed for 15 years after service. I saved the lives of 185 people including Gautam Adani in the 26/11 attacks. Which job will you give me in Mahindra Group? Despite giving 15 years to the army, many people like me are unemployed.

Former Navy Chief Arun Prakash also questioned

Former Navy Chief, Arun Prakash also questioned Anand Mahindra. Arun said, ‘Why wait for this new scheme? Has the Mahindra Group reached out to thousands of skilled, disciplined ex-servicemen (jawans and officers) who retire every year and look for a second career? Can I get data from your group?’

Navy engineering seller also expressed anger

Abhishek Kumar, who was an Engineer Sailor in the Navy, also questioned the companies’ promise to give jobs to Agniveers. Abhishek wrote, “I am a former Navy Engineering Sailor, got a Navy release on 31st July 2017. I requested Mahindra Group to give me a job, even after 5 years I am unemployed. And now suddenly all the companies have agreed to give job to Agniveer. What a joke…’

Agniveer Scheme

Agneepath scheme was announced on 14th June. Under this scheme, the youth of 17.5 to 21 years will be recruited in the army for 4 years, after 4 years only 25% of them will be kept in the army for 15 years or more. The government later increased the upper age limit to 23 for 2022 recruitment. The army said that Agniveer would be given a special rank and insignia. It is mandatory for the youth below 18 years of age to sign the enrollment form of their parents.
