The Samajwadi Party has suffered a major setback in the two Lok Sabha seats of UP, Rampur and Azamgarh by-elections. BJP has fed lotus in both the seats. Ghanshyam Lodhi defeated Asim Raza by more than 42 thousand votes in Rampur, which is called a stronghold of SP, while in Azamgarh, Bhojpuri superstar Dinesh Lal Nirahua defeated SP candidate and Akhilesh Yadav’s brother Dharmendra Yadav by more than 10 thousand votes. .
Let us inform that voting was held on June 23 in both the seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, both the seats were won by the Samajwadi Party. After this defeat, the strength of the Samajwadi Party in the Lok Sabha came down from five to three. The low voting percentage in the voting had raised the concern of all the parties. In Rampur, 41.39 per cent and Azamgarh had 49.43 per cent voting. There were 6 candidates in the fray from Rampur and 13 from Azamgarh. However, the real contest remained between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP. Let us inform that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, both the seats were occupied by the SP. SP’s national president Akhilesh Yadav won from Azamgarh and Azam Khan won from Rampur. But after becoming MLAs in the 2022 assembly elections, both the leaders had resigned from the membership of the Lok Sabha, due to which the by-election was held. In Rampur, Asim Raja from SP and Ghanshyam Lodhi of BJP were in the fray, while BSP did not field a candidate from here.
There was a triangular contest in Azamgarh. SP fielded Dharmendra Yadav, while Dinesh Lal Yadav was seen hitting Nirhua from BJP’s side. BSP fielded Shah Alam alias Guddu Jamali. While Akhilesh Yadav was not visible during the election campaign, BJP gave full force. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached both the seats to campaign and sought votes for the BJP candidate.
