Indonesian minister and Muslim religious leader will come to India, will participate in this conference on the invitation of NSA Doval

Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Dr Mohd Mahfud MD will visit India next week at the invitation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation of Indonesian Ulemas to Delhi on November 28 to participate in the Conference on Inter-Religious Harmony. During the visit to Delhi, Ulema of Indonesia will also hold talks with leaders of other religions. It may be noted that NSA Doval had visited Indonesia in March this year for the second India-Indonesia Security Dialogue. The NSA had then invited Minister Mahfud to visit India.

According to information received from sources, ‘Role of Ulema in promoting mutual peace and culture of social harmony in India and Indonesia’ will be discussed in Delhi. Apart from this, Ulema will also hold talks with their Indian counterparts. He said that Ulema play a very important role in Islamic society and the purpose of such discussion is to bring together Indian and Indonesian Ulema and scholars. that can advance cooperation in promoting tolerance, harmony and peaceful coexistence and combating violent extremism and radicalisation.”

Sources said that there will be three sessions in the context of this discussion. Continuity and change in Islam will be discussed in the first session. While the second session will discuss the harmony of inter-faith society and the third and final session will discuss measures to counter radicalization and extremism in India and Indonesia. During the visit to India, the Ulema of Indonesia will also hold talks with leaders of other religions.

Apart from this, information has also come to light that NSA Ajit Doval will deliver his address at the inauguration and conclusion of the event. Apart from this, a joint statement will also be issued at the end of the visit.

Significantly, Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world. Also India is home to the second largest population of Muslims in the world.
