Uttarakhand: The maximum punishment under life imprisonment will now be 14 years, the government has issued a notification

Female and male prisoners lodged in Uttarakhand life imprisonment will be able to be released after equal punishment. For release, they will be judged on the criteria of good conduct, nature of offense and age. He will be released on a personal bond of Rs 50,000. The government has issued a notification in this regard. In the State Cabinet meeting, the Uttarakhand State (for remission/premature release of convicted prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment by courts) Permanent Policy, 2022 was approved. Additional Chief Secretary Home Radha Raturi issued its notification.

Will have to deposit a personal bond of Rs 50,000

The prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment will be released on the condition of a personal bond of Rs 50,000. If a prisoner is released by mistake, he can be sent to jail again. Prisoners suffering from more than 13 serious diseases will also be able to get release.

Under the policy, life imprisonment will now be a maximum of 14 years

Under the policy, life imprisonment will now carry a maximum sentence of 14 years. Till now there was a provision of 14 years for women and 16 years for men. But now such convicted female and male prisoners who have completed 14 years without parole and 16 years with parole, their sentence will be forgiven. Similarly, prisoners without parole above 70 years of age will be released in 12 years and those on parole in 14 years and those above 80 years without parole will be released in 10 years and those with parole in 12 years.

A committee will be formed under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary or Secretary Home to consider such matters. In this committee, Principal Secretary or Secretary Justice and Legal Counsel, Principal Secretary or Secretary Home and Additional Secretary Home (Prisons) will be members, while Inspector General Prisons will be the member secretary. The decision on the release of the prisoners will be based on the nature of the crime.
