Australia crushes South Africa in the second test, major reshuffle in WTC table; Team India’s path is easy

Australia has also won the second match of the two-Test series against South Africa by an innings and 182 runs. With this, the Kangaroo team has made an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series as well. After the second consecutive defeat on the tour of Australia, South Africa has suffered a major setback in the points table of the World Test Championship (WTC). The team has now slipped from third to fourth position. On the other hand, with the defeat of South Africa, the path of Team India seems to be getting easier for the finals. However, South Africa still have three more Tests to play, including two home matches.

Talking about the second Test played between Australia and South Africa in Melbourne, the Kangaroo team won its name till the second session of the fourth day. Earlier, the Brisbane Test was over within two days. Playing here first, South Africa’s team was reduced to 189 runs. In response, Australia declared their innings by scoring 575 runs thanks to David Warner’s double century and Alex Carey’s century. In the second innings too, the poor batting of the visiting team was seen and they lost the match by an innings being reduced to just 204 runs. Cameron Green took 5 wickets in the first innings for Australia, while Nathan Lyon was the best bowler in the second innings with 3 wickets.

WTC points table reshuffled

After this defeat of South Africa, there has been a big change in the points table of the World Test Championship 2021-23. Where Australia has strengthened its way to the final by being in the first place. The Australian team is on top with a winning percentage of 78.57. At the same time, the Indian team is in second place with 58.93 percent. On the other hand, South Africa has lost one place after this defeat and is in fourth place with 50 percent. And Sri Lanka remains at the third position with 53.33 percent.

Team India’s path became easy

The Indian team has yet to play four more Test matches in the current championship. At the same time, 5 matches of Australia, 3 of South Africa and 2 of Sri Lanka are left. Australia is almost certain to go to the finals. There is a fight between India, South Africa and Sri Lanka for the second spot. Both the remaining matches of India are now domestic. South Africa is yet to play the last match of the series against Australia. Then at home the team has to play two matches against the West Indies.
