How is simultaneous election possible in the country? Election commission gave this answer

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday said that it is for the Parliament to consider amendments to the Constitution and the Representation of the People Act (RPI) to hold simultaneous elections in the country. The submissions came during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Delhi High Court, which sought a direction to the ECI to explore the feasibility of holding elections to the Lok Sabha and Assemblies simultaneously to save money and manpower.

Election Commission’s counsel Siddhant Kumar said that it is the job of the Parliament to look into the matter and added that it is the job of the Parliament to consider amendments to the Constitution and the RPI to hold simultaneous elections in the country. Advocate Siddhant Kumar also objected to the prayer of the petitioner to direct the ECI to examine the feasibility of holding elections on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays and said, a Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court has already held that the schedule of elections The sole discretion of the Election Commission.

After taking note of the submissions, the Delhi High Court today asked the Election Commission (EC) to look into the representation made by a petitioner. Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramaniam Prasad’s bench said today, we know our limit, the prayer sought in the petition is completely within the purview of the Election Commission.
