Former CM Parkash Singh Badal passed away; Chief Minister of Punjab 5 times; took his last breath at the age of 95

Former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal passed away on Tuesday at the age of 95. He was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali on Friday morning after his health deteriorated. He was the Chief Minister of Punjab for 5 times.

In June 2022 too, he was admitted to the hospital after complaining of chest pain. He was discharged from the hospital after some time. In September 2022, he was admitted to PGI Chandigarh after his health deteriorated again.

Inactive since last assembly election

Badal had lost the elections to the Punjab Assembly in 2022. This was the first defeat of his political career. Due to his old age, he did not want to contest the election, but at the behest of son Sukhbir Badal and seeing the pathetic condition of Akali Dal in Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal entered the election field.

Youngest sarpanch and oldest candidate

Parkash Singh Badal started politics in the year 1947. He contested the election of Sarpanch and won. Then he became the youngest sarpanch. In 1957, he contested the first assembly elections. He won again in 1969. Till 1969-70, he was the minister of the ministries of Panchayat Raj, Animal Husbandry, Dairy etc.

Apart from this, he became the Chief Minister of Punjab in 1970–71, 1977–80, 1997–2002. He also became the Leader of the Opposition in 1972, 1980 and 2002. He was also elected MP when Morarji Desai was the Prime Minister. He also became the oldest candidate after contesting the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.

Campaign launched after wife died of cancer

On 24 May 2011, Surinder Kaur Badal, wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, died at PGI after a long battle with cancer. Then Surinder Kaur was 72 years old. Surinder Kaur was suffering from throat cancer. After the death of his wife, Prakash Singh Badal started a campaign against cancer while being the Chief Minister.

Cancer patients were diagnosed at home. Not only this, the speedy treatment of cancer in government hospitals was possible only because of Badal. CM Relief Fund was also started by Parkash Singh Badal. In which after passing the file of cancer patients, they were given financial assistance, so that the victims could get their treatment done.

Dhami expressed grief over the demise of former Punjab CM, said- Badal ji had a special place in Indian politics

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami condoled the demise of former Punjab Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal. Pushkar Singh Dhami tweeted and wrote that the sad news of the demise of former Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal was received. Badal ji had a special place in Indian politics. On the other hand, the Chief Minister said that God should give place to the departed soul in his holy feet and give strength to the bereaved family members and supporters to bear this sorrow.

Let us tell you that former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal passed away on Tuesday night at around 8:28 pm. He was 95 years old. According to the information, he died at Fortis Hospital in Mohali. The last journey of Badal’s body will be taken out from Mohali to Bathinda Badal village on Wednesday morning. According to PTI, the senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali a week ago after he complained of breathing problems.
