Supreme Court will hear the Atiq-Ashraf murder case on April 28, this demand was made in the petition

The murder case of Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf is in the Supreme Court. The hearing in this matter was to be held today i.e. on April 24, however its date has been extended further. Now the matter will be heard on April 28. There has been a demand to set up an independent expert committee headed by a former Supreme Court judge to investigate the murder of Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf in the presence of police in Prayagraj. The petition has also demanded an inquiry into the 183 encounters in UP since 2017.

Why the hearing was postponed

Advocate Vishal Tiwari had filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The matter was to come up for hearing today before a bench headed by CJID Y Chandrachud but could not make it to the list due to illness of several judges. The CJI has assured to hear the matter on April 28. CJI Chandrachud said the matter is one of the many to be rescheduled for a later date after five judges tested positive for COVID-19.

What was the demand made in the petition

Advocate Vishal Tiwari has filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding the formation of an independent expert committee to probe the 183 encounters in UP. The case of Atiq-Ashraf’s murder is also included in this. In this petition, a demand has also been made to investigate the Bikru encounter case 2020 of Kanpur. In this case Vikas Dubey had an encounter by the police. Please tell that on April 15, Atiq and his brother Ashraf were murdered when he was in police custody. He was being taken to the hospital for medical. Three youths who came posing as media persons shot and killed both of them.
