Aadhaar is not mandatory for making voter card! Know- What did the Election Commission say in the Supreme Court?

If you do not have Aadhar card and want to get your name added to the voter list, then there is good and important news for you. Now Aadhar card will not be required to get voter card made.
During the hearing of a petition in the Supreme Court, the Election Commission clearly said that Aadhaar number is not mandatory for the voter list. While giving the undertaking on behalf of the Election Commission, the lawyer appearing in the country’s biggest court said that Aadhaar card is not mandatory under the Registration of Electors Amendment Rules 2022 and a clarification for the same will be issued soon.
The counsel appearing for the Election Commission has said in the Supreme Court during the hearing, while giving an undertaking before the bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, that necessary changes will soon be made in Form 6 and 6B for new registration for the voter list.
Actually Telangana Congress leader G. Niranjan has filed a petition in the Supreme Court saying that Aadhaar is being sought for registration for new voters. However, the Election Commission says that submitting Aadhaar details is voluntary and not mandatory.
The petitioner says that the Election Commission is insisting its officials to collect the Aadhaar number from the voters. For this, state officials are also putting pressure on village and booth level officials to collect Aadhaar numbers from voters. Due to this, the grassroots level officials involved in adding names to the voter list are pressurizing the voters to submit their Aadhaar number and threatening that if they do not submit the Aadhaar card number, their name will be removed from the voter list.
