Hockey India rejected Elena Norman’s allegations, had accused of factionalism in the federation

Hockey India’s long-serving CEO Elena Norman resigned on Tuesday after holding the post for almost 13 years. While resigning, he had alleged that it had become difficult to work due to factionalism in the federation, but he took this decision. However, according to Hockey India sources, he was not paid for the last three months. But Hockey India has denied Elena Norman’s allegations.

Hockey India rejects Elena Norman’s allegations

After resigning from his post, Norman had told PTI that it was becoming difficult to work amid the fight between the two groups. There are two groups in Hockey India. On one side are me and (President) Dilip Tirkey and on the other side are (Secretary) Bholanath Singh, (Executive Director) Commander RK Srivastava and (Treasurer) Shekhar J Manoharan. There are some people who want to gain power and on one side there is Dilip who is a good person and wants the well-being of Indian hockey. But Hockey India has denied the differences between president Dilip Tirkey and secretary Bhola Nath Singh.

Dilip Tirkey-Bholanath Singh issued statement

Dilip Tirkey and Bholanath Singh said in a joint statement that they will continue to work together for the betterment of hockey. In a joint statement issued by Hockey India, he said that recently some outgoing officials have said in the media that there is factionalism in Hockey India. This is not correct. We will continue to work unitedly for the interest of hockey.

Said this when payment was not received for the last three months

Norman He said that there were some salary related issues and after a lot of initiative, they got approval last week. Norman’s resignation is the second blow for Hockey India in the last few days. Before him, Indian women’s hockey team head coach Yanek Schopman had resigned saying that it is difficult to work in the kind of environment that exists in Hockey India. He also claimed that the national federation does not value and respect him. Norman expressed similar sentiments but praised Tirkey for his continued support.

Who is Elena Norman?

Norman came to India in 2007 to work in a sports management company. He was appointed the first Chief Executive Officer of Hockey India in 2011. In 2011, with Norman, Hockey India’s first CEO, at the helm, India’s men’s and women’s teams achieved their best-ever rankings. Not only this, the men’s team ended the 41-year long wait for a medal by winning the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
