Demand for road for years, more than 50 villages of Uttarakhand announced election boycott

The issue of election boycott is heating up in Uttarakhand before the Lok Sabha elections. From Almora to Pauri, from hills to plains, many villages are boycotting the elections. There are many issues behind the election boycott, but the issue that is being raised the most is that of roads. Due to which more than fifty villages of the state have announced election boycott.

15 villages of Almora boycotted elections
Voting is to be held in the first phase in Uttarakhand on April 19 for the Lok Sabha elections, the great festival of democracy. But before this, voices of boycotting the elections are being heard. 15 villages of Almora district have announced election boycott. The villagers have made this announcement regarding issues like drinking water and roads. Villagers are troubled due to water shortage and lack of roads.

Villagers of Hatola, Punizar, Kasan, Khudayari, Bargeti, Sukhali and Talsyari of Almora district will boycott the elections. Along with this, there has been talk of boycotting the elections due to non-construction of four km road in Dalmoti and Balutiya. Whereas in Khaikatta and Kwarala villages under Someshwar Assembly, a warning has been given to boycott the elections due to drinking water problem. Talking about Salt, the villagers of 11 gram panchayats have warned not to vote due to lack of asphalting on the 28 km long Jhipa-Tanaula-Dabra motorway.

35 villages of Pauri Garhwal boycotted elections
Before the Lok Sabha elections, people from mountains to the plains are boycotting the elections for their demands. According to a report by One India Hindi, 35 villages of Pauri Garhwal district have announced election boycott demanding roads. Villagers say that they have voted for so many years but still there has been no development. Want to wake up the public representatives by not voting this time. People say that they have been waiting for the road for 44 years. Let us tell you that these 35 villages also agitated under the banner of Park Affected Sangharsh Committee. But even after this their demands have not been fulfilled.

Election boycott here in Chamoli also
Demanding construction of a village in Chamoli, people of Nagar Panchayat Devrora ward of Chamoli district have announced election boycott. People have even warned public representatives not to enter the village. People say that they have put up banners of ‘No village, no vote’ on all the roads of the village. Unless he is removed from the Nagar Panchayat and placed in the Gram Panchayat again, he will boycott the elections and will not allow any public representative to enter the village.

No road no vote
People of Dumak village of Chamoli district have announced election boycott demanding a road. Let us tell you that the villagers have been agitating for four decades for the construction of an important road connecting the village to the district headquarters. But till date their demand has not been fulfilled.

Let us tell you that the people of Dasholi and Pankhand areas have boycotted the elections twice since the 1990s, demanding road construction. The people who are troubled by the lack of road are not from any one village, but the people of Kimoli-Partoli village in Karnaprayag are angry due to the lack of asphalting of the road. They have put up posters saying that no representative should come to their villages.

Election boycott announced in Champawat and Dehradun also
Angered by the non-construction of a road in Bantoli village of Barakot block of Champawat district, the local people have announced boycott of voting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Let us tell you that the villagers have been demanding asphalting of Marodakhan Bantoli road for a long time. But the demands of the villagers have not been fulfilled yet.

Three Panchayats of Doiwala Assembly of the capital Dehradun have announced election boycott. The villagers have announced boycott of the elections by putting up the banner of ‘No road, no vote’. There is a lot of anger among the people due to the road not being built.

Adopted villages also announced
Some villages are adopted by the MPs for the development of villages. But the villages adopted by the MPs have also announced election boycott. Almora MP Ajay Tamta had adopted Goshni village, located about 28 km from Champawat district headquarters. While Tehri MP Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah had adopted Kyara village. The villagers of both the villages have announced boycott of the elections due to lack of basic facilities and non-construction of roads.
