Hearing on petition related to Kejriwal’s diet and medicine in jail completed, court reserved decision

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has completed the hearing on Kejriwal’s petition and reserved its decision. Now the court will give its verdict on Kejriwal’s petition regarding food and insulin on Monday 22 April. During the hearing, Kejriwal’s lawyer said that there is no need to reply to the application. At the same time, ED said that the doctor of AIIMS should be allowed to examine Kejriwal’s health. On this, Kejriwal’s lawyer said that we do not need ED’s advice. ED has nothing to do with this matter. Kejriwal’s food is checked thrice. Then they are given food.

Delhi CM’s lawyer said that the court should ask the jail authority under which authority every detail of Kejriwal’s food was given to ED. Under what authority did the jail authority allow Kejriwal to eat food outside the diet suggested by the court? On this, the jail authority told the court that when Kejriwal was brought to the jail, he was initially taking insulin. But later it was closed itself.

The jail authority said that in giving home-cooked food to Kejriwal, there was no condition that he should eat fruits or anything else. Actually, he is not following the diet. We have also received opinion from AIIMS. According to this, they should avoid mango. According to the jail manual, home-cooked food cannot be given to the prisoner unless there is special permission of the court. Our suggestion is that home-cooked food should be as per the AIIMS report and if it is not so, we will have to suggest that home-cooked food should not be given as per the jail manual.

Tihar Jail authority said that Kejriwal should follow the diet chart, there is no need for insulin. If he takes insulin then the sugar level will reduce significantly. The AIIMS report states that they will have to avoid mango, sapota, banana etc.

The court told Kejriwal’s lawyer that when permission was given to eat home-cooked food on April 1, you should have followed the diet chart given to you at that time. The judge told Kejriwal’s lawyer that from the comparative chart of your diet chart and the diet chart given by the jail, it seems that there has been some change in it.

In response, Kejriwal’s lawyer said that my application for insulin cannot be opposed because of minor changes like mango and aloo puri. The jail authority sought time to file its reply on Kejriwal’s petition. The jail authority told the court that it is not that Kejriwal’s health is not being monitored. Or they are facing some problem. Whatever facilities they need have been provided.
