There was firing outside the US embassy in Lebanon, one gunman was caught

Lebanese troops have captured a gunman who attacked the US embassy near Beirut, military and embassy officials said. An embassy security guard was injured in the attack on Wednesday morning. Months of war between Hezbollah militants and Israeli troops has led to political deadlock and economic crisis. Thousands of people have been displaced from the border.

Sound of bullets heard

Local media reported that the encounter continued for about half an hour from both sides. Joe Abdo, who works at a gas station near the complex, said he heard “about 15 to 20 gunshots” while working in the morning. He told the Associated Press, “We ran to see what was happening but the army stopped us from going up.”

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack

Lebanese media has released some pictures showing the blood-soaked attacker wearing black clothing. His clothing has “Islamic State” and the letters “I” and “S” written on it in Arabic. So far, Islamic State or any other group has not claimed responsibility for the attack. According to officials, the suspect was shot in the stomach and leg and has been taken to a military hospital in Beirut.
