Under Donald Trump’s peace plan, Pakistan is planning to deploy troops in the Gaza Strip. According to Pakistani diplomatic and military sources, Pakistan plans to deploy approximately 3,500 soldiers as part of the proposed International Stabilization Force (ISF). The International Stabilization Force (ISF) is a key component of the 20-point peace plan supported by US President Donald Trump. This proposal calls for the creation of an internationally supported force to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza and the disarmament of extremist groups.

Trump has urged Muslim countries to contribute troops, logistics, and equipment to the ISF. This is believed to be the main reason behind the recent emphasis placed by the US on Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir. The US wants Pakistan to be a part of this force.

US calls Pakistan crucial
Last week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called Pakistan crucial for the international force in Gaza. Rubio said that Pakistan was considering sending its troops to Gaza and thanked Pakistan for this. He further added that if Pakistan agrees, it would be crucial. Rubio stated that discussions are underway with Pakistan and other potential troop-contributing countries.

What did Pakistan say about the deployment?
Meanwhile, Pakistan has said that a decision regarding sending troops is still pending. Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said that Pakistan has not yet decided on its participation in the ISF. However, it is understood that Pakistan’s military leadership has held discussions with US officials regarding the potential deployment.

Risk of domestic opposition
While Pakistani army participation in Gaza could strengthen Islamabad’s relations with Washington, it could face domestic opposition from Islamic parties. There were also reports that Asim Munir might soon visit Washington to meet with Trump, but the Pakistani Foreign Ministry denied these reports. There is already anger in Pakistan over the Gaza war and the Jewish state of Israel. In this context, the deployment of troops in Gaza can be linked to hardline Israeli and Western-led security initiatives.
