A project to connect remote and strategically important areas of Uttarakhand, bordering the India-China border, to the power grid has commenced.
The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has identified 43 ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) outposts located in areas adjacent to the Chinese border under the Border Out Post scheme, and the villages of Purali in Uttarkashi district and Navi, Kutti, Gunji, Garbyang, Sheela, Baling, and Tidang in Pithoragarh district under the Vibrant Village Program, for grid connectivity.
The tender process has been completed to ensure grid-based electricity supply to 882 households in these villages. A survey has now been initiated to connect these villages to the power grid.
The provision of electricity to these border villages and ITBP outposts is expected to bring about significant improvements in border security as well as the living standards of the local population. This will enhance the operational capabilities of the ITBP posts and strengthen the surveillance system.
Furthermore, it will provide citizens with access to education, healthcare services, digital connectivity, and self-employment opportunities. This will also help in curbing migration from these border villages.
UPCL Managing Director Anil Yadav stated that both these schemes, under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, are extremely important from the perspective of national security and rural empowerment.
Providing electricity to these border areas will increase the efficiency and operational capabilities of the ITBP posts, while also connecting local villagers to facilities such as education, healthcare services, employment opportunities, and digital connectivity.
