Efforts intensified to bring fugitive Mehul Choksi to India
CBI and ED team reached Dominica
Preparations have started to bring diamond businessman Mehul Choksi, accused of Punjab National Bank scam, absconding from the country with thousands of crores of Indian banks. A six-member flamboyant team of central agencies has reached Dominica to bring back Mehul Choksi. If the Caribbean court allows Choksi to be extradited to India, then this team will bring him back to the country. Dominica court will decide today whether Mehul Choksi will be sent back to Antigua or will Indian agencies be given custody.
It is noteworthy that Choksi has been living in Antigua since 2018 with citizenship there. He mysteriously disappeared from Antigua and Barbuda on May 23 this year. He was later arrested for illegally entering Dominica. It was only last week that a jet was sent from India with documentary evidence against Choksi. Who will be produced during the hearing in the court and the court will be told that he is a citizen of India and has run away from there by fraudulently in the bank.
Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi are accused of allegedly defrauding PNB to the tune of Rs 13,500 crore in connivance with some bank officials. Nirav Modi is currently lodged in a London jail. CBI is investigating against both.
